Bargain Books

"When I visit other bookstores, I have a routine. I first look at new book tables, then I check my phone list of hard-to-find books against what this store carries. I get absolutely giddy when I find a book I've long been searching for. Then I look at the local interest section because I know I'm going to find books I haven't seen anywhere else. I also like to browse the sidelines, mostly to see what's new in the world of literary socks. Lastly, if the store has a Bargain section, I browse it looking for hidden treasures, and I almost always find something I can't resist.

So last year I began to think that Literati should provide its customers with the opportunity to find hidden treasures in a Bargain section, and thus the section was born in early March, 2018, on the Second Floor coffee shop level. I've been having a grand time ordering the titles, scrolling through lengthy spreadsheets to pick out what interests me, but more importantly what I think might pique customer interest. Our section is not one where you'll find many Bargain priced hardcovers of books that are newly out in paperback--that's what you'll find at other stores. Instead, you might find an interesting UK edition of a book that you love, you may find some university press titles that are several years old, but no less fascinating. Or you may find an assortment of non-fiction titles that just interested me.. In the bargain section I try to mirror the sections that are our most popular in the store, so you'll mostly find a mix of fiction, science fiction/fantasy, poetry, books on writing, language (a customer favorite has been Stylized: A Slightly Obsessive History of Strunk & White's The Elements of Style by Mark Garvey), social sciences, psychology and History. Since early March, we've had 222 different titles in the section, and we just unboxed a new shipment this week. I hope you'll be inspired to make 2nd floor of Literati a destination every time you come to the store."
