The Booker Prize rewards the finest in fiction, highlighting great books to readers and transforming authors’ careers. The symmetrical relationship between The Booker Prize for Fiction and The International Booker Prize ensures that they honour fiction and the best writing on a global basis. The prizes are supported by Crankstart, the charitable foundation of Sir Michael Moritz and his wife, Harriet Heyman.
We're well aware that our shoppers are frustrated wtih not being able to stroll around Literati's tables and shelves to see what's new, what's recommended, and what Literati staff are reading. Though the store has been closed to the public — but open online 24/7 for delivery and curbside pickup — Literati staff have been busy reading advanced reader copies of soon to be published books. Carla, Julia, Shannon, and Vicki are happy to share with you some of the July and August new releases they're really excited about.
Ann Arbor's largest outdoor gathering, the Ann Arbor Art Fair, is cancelled for this year. It would have been occurring July 15-18 throughout downtown and the U/M campus. We thought we'd offer you titles to get you through what would be your art-filled week: books about art and color as well as novels surrounding art and artists, models and muses, art heists and mysteries. Get lost in art with this list created by Literati staff Vicki, Jeanne, and Shannon.
If your upcoming holiday involves some quiet reading time, don't miss out on some of the below book recommendations! More from Bookseller Vicki:
"Being an avid reader who loves to talk about books, I just have to know what other people are reading. Here's a list of books that everyone is talking about right now on websites, blogposts, instagram, and on reading lists. I can't wait to get my hands on them!"
Stay safe, wear a mask, be good to each other.
"We assume whiteness is the default because whiteness, historically, has been the default. This is one of the many reasons diverse representation matters so much.
These books are the perfect companions to hot summer days, afternoons by the lakeshore, or evenings inside savoring the AC. As our bookseller Vicki put it, "All winter I look out the window and ponder over what beach I'm going to set my little chair on when I spend my one-week summer vacation absorbed in a few good books by the sea. I introduce to you some dear old friends, books that went to the beach with me and books that were good company."
After staying home for so long, I know many of us are itching to travel and experience new places. If that's not in the cards (or possible to stay within budget!), these books will transport you to different places and take you alongside travelers across the world. —Emma
