My copy of Fear & Trembling has writing all over the margins because when I love a book, I can't help but talk back and talk with the author, or the characters. This book turns my brain into sharply, focused hawk eyes. "Every moment of infinity occurs with passion, and no reflection can bring about a movement." (Ah!) This book challenges the notions of paradox, faith, and reason, shining different facets of philosophical questions and layering possible answers, possible avenues of thought. What does it mean to demand absolute love? To hope for two exactly opposite outcomes (both a death and a non-death of the same person), and receive both! WHAT?!? Such clear, clean logic and prose. My heart swoons.

Regarded as the father of Existentialism, Kierkegaard transformed philosophy with his conviction that we must all create our own nature; in this great work of religious anxiety, he argues that a true understanding of God can only be attained by making a personal "leap of faith."
