The Hollywood elevator pitch for this book would be "The Breakfast Club" meets "Ocean's Eleven", but actually the book is much better than that. Plain-old Max Cobb and a random few of his classmates think that they have been invited to join the super-secret Chaos Club, a group notorious for playing outrageous pranks at their high school. In reality, it was all a set-up, and after getting caught, the group decides to band together for revenge against the CC. The pranks get more and more elaborate until it is hard to tell who is pulling the strings. This is a laugh-out-loud book with great characters. A wonderful debut! —Deb
The great-great-great grandson of John Watson and the great-great-great-granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes discover they're attending the same Connecticut boarding school. And then a classmate they hold in mutual contempt winds up murdered. Coincidences? HA! The game’s very much afoot in this delightful spin on the Holmes mythos, which strikes an ideal balance between replicating and reimagining the Holmes–Watson dynamic. I devoured this novel, and was on the verge of despair until I realized that Cavallaro's written (at least!) two more in the series. —Sam
I love The Gilded Wolves, Roshani Chokshi's lush historical fantasy! Set in 1880s Paris, the book follows an unlikely band of allies who have everything to gain and even more to lose in their hunt for an ancient and powerful artifcat. I loved the dynamic characters most of all, but there was lots here to enjoy. The romantic chemistry was electric. The banter was witty. The mystery was intricately constructed and a complete joy to watch unfold. I absolutely fell into this fun, original, and enchanting read! —Julia
