David Sedaris at Literati

Wednesday, June 11, 2014 - 5:00pm
UPDATE: Thanks to all who lined up (some incredibly early) to purchase tickets today. We're now completely SOLD OUT. To those who waited in line for tickets but were put on the waitlist, you receive an email about a waitlist signing line, which will precede the general signing line.
And, again: there will be a general signing line after the reading that will begin at approximately 7pm. David will meet and talk with everyone in this line! We'll have treats all night on our block, so come hang!
We are SO EXCITED to host David Sedaris at Literati on June 11th! He's pretty much our favorite author around here. When Hilary heard that he was coming, she said, "Besides getting married and opening this bookstore, this is the best thing that has ever happened!" And we believe it! Not only is he one of our favorite writers here at Literati, he's particularly beloved with our customers and all of Ann Arbor, and, of course, all over the world.

David Sedaris will be at Literati for both a talk and a signing. There are limited tickets to the reading due to the size of our store. Customers can obtain a ticket to the talk by purchasing a copy of the paperback of Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, which comes out on June 3rd. Books will be for sale when we open for business on June 3rd at 10am. Strict limit of one ticket per customer. No holds, call-aheads, or advance sales. Tickets will be available during store hours until all are sold.

Though tickets are limited to the reading, we'll also have general signing that is open to the public, following the reading. David will be happy to meet with and sign for everyone who comes out.

Hilary vividly remembers the first time she read Me Talk Pretty One Day while riding the bus to work and bursting out laughing to the alarm of the passengers next to her. Mike considers David's writing to be why he fell in love with reading, and, partially, one of the reasons this bookstore is open today. Sedaris' hilarious satire of the absurdities and minutia of everyday life make us all laugh and shake our heads in agreement at its spot-on commentary. And while his stories have universal appeal, his style is unmistakably unique. From his books, to New Yorker stories, to his hilariously perfect NPR appearances, you always know Sedaris will delight. We're thrilled to have him here at Literati to share his work and meet his fans. David has always been supportive of independent bookstores and we couldn't be more thankful that he's coming to Literati. It means the world to us that he's coming here and we're excited to offer our customers a chance to get to meet him!
David Sedaris is the author of Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice, as well as collections of personal essays, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and DenimWhen You Are Engulfed in Flames, and his most recent book, Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, each of which became an immediate bestseller.  The audio version of Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls is a 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards Nominee for Best Spoken Word Album. He is the author of the NYT-bestselling collection of fables entitled Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary (with illustrations by Ian Falconer).  He was also the editor of Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories.  Sedaris’s pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.”  There are a total of seven million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages.
