Literati welcomes Richard Polt in support of his book The Typewriter Revolution. Joining Richard will be representatives from our friends at Harlequin Creature, a hand-typed literary journal. Following the reading, Harlequin Creature will make typewriters available to guests to create poetry, prose, or typewriter art--carbon copies will be shared with the Harlequin Creature collective, while originals can go home with their creators.
What do thousands of writers, makers, kids, poets, artists, steampunks, hipsters, activists, and musicians have in common? They love typewriters--the magical, mechanical contraptions that are enjoying a surprising second life in the 21st century. The Typewriter Revolution documents the movement and provides practical advice on how to choose a typewriter, care for it, and use it--from National Novel Writing Month to letter-writing socials, from type-ins to typewritten blogs, from custom-painted typewriters to typewriter tattoos. The book features the experiences and creations of leaders of the 21st-century typewriter revival, including artists such as L.A. Marler, Keira Rathbone, and Tim Youd; street typists such as Typewriter Rodeo, Poems While You Wait, and Jacqueline Suskin; and the bloggers of the Typosphere.
Author Richard Polt is the creator of The Classic Typewriter Page and editor of the typewriter magazine ETCetera.
