Published: Crown - February 18th, 2020

This book DESTROYED me. I think about it constantly. Rooney perfectly captures the all-consuming passion of young, first love, and the lasting impact it has on us. She explores intimate, formative moments of two people's lives with such tender, yet brutal, honesty.

Marianne and Connell, the main characters, are so beloved to me. I hurt for them, I cry for them, I yell at them, I want to wrap my arms around them. Normal People makes you FEEL sensations like regret, longing, despair, shame and love so deeply. It's a great look into the choices we do (and don't) make, and a good reminder that everyone has something going on inside - even if you don't notice.

The Deepest Well: Healing the Long-Term Effects of Childhood Trauma and Adversity By Nadine Burke Harris Cover Image

Published: Mariner Books - December 14th, 2021

"Imagine you are walking in a forest and you see a bear. Immediately, your brain sends a bunch of signals - stress hormones! Adrenaline! Cortisol! So your heart starts to pound, and you are ready to either fight the bear or run... but what happens when you can't experience safety because the bear is living with you?"

The Deepest Well is a compelling exploration of the long-term effects of childhood adversity, particularly the impact of toxic stress on physical and mental health. Dr. Burke Harris, a pediatrician and public health advocate, delves into the science behind adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and how ACEs literally change the way our bodies work, how they can shape a person's life trajectory, and how, with early intervention and universal screening, they can be overcome. This book is heavily based in research, science, and years of experience on the frontlines of public health, yet Dr. Burke Harris writes in such a conversational way that this heavy topic becomes easy to comprehend.

At the heart of this book is Dr. Burke-Harris' passionate belief in our ability to make a difference - "I believe that when we each find the courage to look this problem in the face, we will have the power to transform not only our health, but our world."

Published: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers - September 10th, 2019

Jerome is twelve years old when he is shot and killed by a police officer while playing outside.

Now, Jerome is a ghost boy, existing with countless others in the world between the living and the dead. Guided by Emmett Till, a black child murdered in 955, Jerome witnesses the aftermath of his murder, including the devastation of his family, and the officer's trial. There is only one living person who can see and talk to him - Sarah, the twelve year old daughter of the officer who shot him.

Ghost boys is an age appropriate look into complex issues like racial prejudice and institutional racism. It encourages kids (and grown ups) to reflect and think critically about our country. You'll come away from this book with a deeper understanding of our historical roots and of the way our society functions today. You'll also learn how to help, big and small. The ending lesson is that we can change; we can grow. We can, and should, do something good for the world. It starts with us.

This book is such a delightful read! This light, romantic fantasy swept me off my feet. Every time I opened this book, i felt transported back in time to a world full of magic and royalty (with it's fair share of political unrest). If you love the feel of "Bridgerton" - the balls, the ladies, the social season, the passion, and the gossip columnist, you will love this book!

An Elephant & Piggie Biggie! Volume 4 (An Elephant and Piggie Book) By Mo Willems Cover Image

Published: Hyperion Books for Children - September 21st, 2021

Gerald is an elephant, Piggie is a pig. Despite being different species and having different personalities - they are best friends. These books are so surprising, silly, and engaging. The illustrations are simple yet very expressive, which helps young readers understand tone and build fluency. The dialogue is simple enough for emerging readers to practice their early reading skills, but these stories are seriously so funny and WILL make you and your child laugh. At their heart, Elephant and Piggie books are about honesty, kindness, empathy, and forgiveness - which is what being a good friend is all about. You'll laugh, you'll giggle, and you'll read it over and over again. I'll continue to recommend any and every Elephant and Piggie book to anyone with a little one.
